Yummy in my Tummy

Hope everyone had a great weekend! 'Tis the season for Friends-giving, Thanksgiving, Sweater Parties, and Christmas! We are finally getting to the part of the year where just about everything weekend from now until the end of the year is filled with some sort of activity. Last weekend we had a Friends-giving, and this weekend we had a birthday, a friendly get together, and a REAL Thanksgiving. Fortunately I only had to bring dessert, and figured I'd share a super easy dessert item that I've made 3 times in the past 3 weeks.

Normally at Thanksgiving at my Parent's house I am in charge of the dessert items. I can cook just about anything, but desserts and baking are NOT my specialty, so it's a good time to practice. These don't have a "real" name, so I call them Oreo Funfetti Cake Bars, and I found the recipe on Pinterest. Robert and I LOVE Oreos (more like addicted...) and this was right up my alley of ease.

What you'll need:

-2 packages of Double Stuffed Oreos (I've made them with regular Oreos, and Double Stuffed is the way to go!)
-1 Box Funfetti Cake Mix (This is really cheap, so I got mine at Dollar General for $1)
-1 Egg
-1/4 Cup Milk
-1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

Directions:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Spray a 9x13 (I think) baking pan with some cooking spray. You can use a smaller pan if you want too. Layer Oreos side by side on the bottom of the pan (this will be your "crust").
3. In a large mixing bowl, mix the package of cake mix, egg, milk, and oil together until a thick dough forms.
4. Spread the dough batter over the bottom Oreo layer (this will be really thick). This was the hardest step, as the Oreos weren't glued down and kept moving when the sticky dough was being spread. I used a mixture of my hands and a spoon to spread it evenly. It doesn't have to look pretty-so don't worry if this looks messed up.
5. Once the batter is smoothed down over the bottom layer of Oreos, sprinkle about 8-10 crushed Oreos over the top. I kind of press them into the batter so they don't stick out too much.
6. Bake @ 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Let cool. I stuck the pan in the fridge for an hour or so (depending how much time you have), and then cut the cake bars into little squares for easy access.
7. Enjoy!

These have been a hit so far at every event they've been brought too, and they are super easy to make! You can find the recipe on my Pinterest Board or the original website that I found this on (complete with pictures!). The original site made these with the Halloween Oreos, which are just as yummy, and I bet you could customize the different type of Oreos/Cake to use for each occasion. Oh the possibilities.

My next dessert challenge will be completed this Thursday, and it's called Sex in a Pan (I didn't make that up), and here's a sneak peak of the picture of what it's supposed to look like:

'Til Thursday then!

Well. I did it. Took the plunge. Jumped off the band wagon. And I feel....about 8-9 inches lighter!  And the not so pretty before photo (just looked at all that fried straw!):  #shorthairdontcare

Wedding Invites: DIY

During my wedding planning, one of the things that I was most "sticker shocked" on was how much wedding invitations cost! I looked everywhere (and I'm talking everywhere: Etsy, Michaels, Target, Pinterest, any online shop, etc.) for ones that I liked that were cute, not too elaborate, and at a reasonable price (meaning not $300-600). I mean, it's a sheet of paper, envelope, stamp, and RSVP basically. It wasn't until I found this DIY that I finally had a possibility for what we were wanting to use for our invites, and I think they turned out great (for a DIY).  2 Invites could be made from 1 sheet of paper. I printed the actual invite on Vellum paper, and then put it over the card stock.  Here's what you need:  FREE Template 1 pack of 100 sheet Card Stock Paper-I got mine from Michaels because it was shimmery but not too blingy 1 pack of white vellum paper (I got mine at Staples) Ribbon in color of your choice Hole Puncher Scissors Half

Winter is Coming..so is a Wedding!

Burrrr! Today is a balmy 40 degrees outside-and I'm definitely not ready for it despite my scarf-wearing, boot shopping fashion choices since September, hoping to "force" Fall to actually happening, but now that it's here: go away! Or at least just get a liiiitle bit warmer, so I can still have fun in my dozens of scarves and boots, but not freeze my ass off. Ka-peesh? My parents like to kindly remind me of what's to come in December, since we are going to the Army-Navy football game in Baltimore. Last year in Philly was just awful (and by awful I mean freezing, rainy, icy, cold, hungry, wet, sweaty, repeat) but a blasty blast being in a new city and living through new memories being made.  Any hoo-Even though I'm not snuggled up at home on this festive Veteran's Day (thank you to everyone who has served!), warm in my bed, I still wanted to touch on some wedding related topics: vendors. This could also be fun to read AFTER the wedding in April, to loo
