House Bucket List: Summer 2015

Schoooooool's out. For. The summmmmerrrr!!  (sung like Alice Cooper, of course) Which is completely irrelevant to my life, but I feel like "summer break" should be an excuse to get some things done around the house that have been on the back burner since this little thing called a "wedding" was the main focus for the past year and a half. We've almost been in our new house for a year now come September, and besides our basic furniture and a few DIYs, the walls are still empty, and we don't have really anything going on in our guest bedroom (besides a bed-baby steps here!), or our study (looks strangely empty without all of our wedding crap!). I'm ready to organize, then re-organize, and organize some more! Thank goodness for my handy dandy pinterest board to keep all of my ideas for me. Trying to actually make use of it, instead of just thinking of it. Actions speak louder than pins, am I right?!  So far, only little touches have been adde...

Quinoa & Brown Rice Jambalaya Dinner

So I kind of sort of made up my own dinner recipe the other night-and it was muy deliciosa ! I won't take full credit, since the basis of it came from a box, but what I added it to customize and make our own I'm pretty proud of and stoked that it came out so yummy.  Has anyone heard of Quinoa? For the longest time, I had heard of this mystery product, but always thought that it was pronounced Kwin-o-uh, you know, like it's spelled? Finally I learned the truth and have been a bit annoying about saying it the correct way (Keeeen-wah)! I knew from the things I've heard that this was a healthier option-protein rich and high in fiber (which helps you feel fuller, longer, and helps with digesting). It's also gluten free, and cooks a lot faster than your normal rice would. I think it's considered a "super food" because it has all of these amazing health benefits without the high calories and without any gluten, plus all of the amino acids. Anyway, I...

Bikram Yoga: What the What?

So I had the opportunity to try some Bikram Yoga last night courtesy of Jessica...you know...the yoga that is in a boiling hot room for 90 minutes? If I can play a 90 minute soccer game in the dead heat of the summer (which was done many a time!), then I can do this-right? I'm always up for trying something new, and since I have been doing Piyo classes pretty regularly, I felt like this was a cool next step to try out. Plus, it's something I've always been curious in doing, but just never had someone to do it with or the opportunity to go to. She had asked myself and friend Brittany to try, and we did! So thank you Jess-it was....fun? Intriguing? Crazy? Ha!  I'm not going to lie-I was more worried about doing the actual yoga poses and not looking like an idiot in front of all these pros because 1) I'm not that flexible and 2) I'm still not that flexible. But it wasn't bad! And I felt like I could hold my own! I'm definitely not the best yoga pose p...

Recipes to try!

This past week I went out on a limb and tried not one, not two, but THREE pretty easy, fast cooking Pinterest recipes. And they did not disappoint. I've been on a lettuce wrap kick for the past couple of weeks, and have been looking for new ways and fillings to eat them with, and one night I just threw in some buffalo sauce to my browned turkey meat, and so started said lettuce wrap obsession. I then remembered that I had probably pinned a few recipes about this, and I was right. I didn't take any pictures of what mine looked like, but you can find the original recipe here . Instead of using baby potatoes for this recipe, I cooked some of this asparagus   to go with the buffalo lettuce wraps and it was so yummy. Woo hoo!  Their pictures are way nicer than I could have captured on my little baby iPhone 5, so check out the links to see such pretty food artwork!  Meal #1: Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Stove Top Steamed Asparagus I left out the ch...
