Memaw's Pecans

Ooo wee one of my favorite things about visiting Mississippi is visiting my Memaw and Papaw's house, which always smells so yummy with no distinct "flavor" to account for. It just smells like Memaw's house, and I LOVE IT! In between shoving my mouth full of home cooked deliciousness was an education opportunity (and a recipe to add to my nifty bride recipe box!). Normally I am not one for "snacks"-I go straight for the fudge and cakes, but this year I actually paid attention to the surroundings and got to enjoy the most simplest of simple snacks to make-PECANS. Actually, I think my grandpa had just not gotten around to eating all of the pecans yet while we were there, so we were able do snag some delicious enjoyment during our Bingo and Mexican Train games.

Annnnnnnndddd we were surprised this past weekend with a wee small bag of freshly picked pecans for ourselves so it was fate, and I made pecans for dinner Saturday night!

Here's what you need:
1. Pecans (already shelled or whatever you call it). I only had half a bag, but normally 4 cups are used.
2. 2 cups of water
3. 1/4 cup of salt

Simple, yes?

Here's what you do:
1. Boil salt and water until the salt is dissolved. Remove from heat and
2. Add pecans and soak for a few minutes. Drain then
3. Bake pecans on baking sheet at 250 degrees for 1-2 hours or until done.

That's it!

I baked them for about an hour and 15 minutes, and they are so so so yummy! Not sticky, completely clean to the touch, and as an added bonus also filled my kitchen with the smell of Memaw's house. SO addicting!!

Please excuse my attempt to be festive and using an old Hot Chocolate tin that I've already gone through. I really need to get a Christmas tin!

Honeymoon Part 1

Where to start, where to start? It's surreal to me how we've ALREADY been married over a week, AND that we've already been to the Bahamas and back :( The Bahamas (in Nassau to be exact) is such a beautiful place. It's the same island that has the Atlantis Resort on it, which we could see in the distance down the coast from our resort. We really picked the perfect place to spend our honeymoon. We left cloudy, rainy Dallas and Atlanta to sunshine and white sand, blue water, and 80 degree weather! It's so crazy to me that we've already been back from there after spending the week out of the country.  Obligatory newlywed plane selfie Monday morning came dark and early at 4am to catch our first flight out of DFW. I was proudly wearing my super comfy new "wifey" sweatshirt that my friend/bridesmaid Shohreh got me-thank goodness she stalks me on Pinterest ;) along with our brand spankin new wedding bands. Robert's ring looks so good against his ...

To cut, or not to cut...that is my question!

More like a dilemma. I've done it before, and I've grown it back out, so I can do it again-right? I feel like everyone has short hair these days (I currently have the longest hair on my team at work!) , and all I wanted when I had short hair was to have long hair again. Now that it's long (and gross and fried and ick at the ends) I want to go short. But then I have an awesome long-haired day and think I want to keep it long. Do you see my problem here? Summer is coming, so it's going to be up in a pony tail or bun most days, so that just seems like such a waste of hair. But I sweat a lot and since summer is hot, wearing it in it's intended short style probably wouldn't last.  What is a girl to do?!

Sunday Confessions

Sooooo I meant to post these  Friday   Saturday  Sunday confessions a couple of days ago, but alas life happens. And it's been a chaotic week. Yay for warmer weather (sorta!) and Super Bowl Sunday but here's what I wanted to post on FRIDAY that I'm just getting around to. Blog fail. So I watched Grease Live! this past Sunday (as in a week ago now) and I can't stop thinking about it. And I may have watched it again...all 3 hours...twice. Did anyone else watch it? The original was an integral part of my childhood, and one of the only movies we watched over and over at my grandma's house, so it's one of my all time faves and I may have gotten a wee bit emotional at the end. The feeeeeels.   I was going to attempt to go do some of this "30 days sugar free!" nonsense starting beginning of February. Then I forgot that Valentine's Day was in a couple of weeks. And we have chocolate everywhere. And Girl Scout cookies. And then it was so and so's bi...
